Given that
the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories has lasted for over 40 years, which continues to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, together with the construction of the separation wall, the destruction of Palestinian homes, the their expulsion, the continuing embargo on Gaza that preceded and followed the attack military (with 1400 fatalities) any effort to undermine the peace process;
Views
the resolutions of the UN Security Council , in particular resolutions 242, 338;
Given the extreme deterioration of the situation Middle East and, in particular, the continued violation by the Israeli government, the Geneva Convention concerning the right of Palestinians to a sovereign, secure and democratic;
became urgent that the international community to adopt new initiatives to contribute to respect for international law and relevant United Nations resolutions;
been found to be more evenly
the prerogative of the people of the Middle East to live in a country where it can be guaranteed in the long term a just and lasting peace based on:
- respect for international law and the full and complete implementation of resolutions 242 and 338 of the UN Security Council;
- the withdrawal of occupation forces and the dismantling of settlements,
- recognition of the right of return for refugees pursuant to UN Resolution 194 and the release Palestinian political prisoners;
Since
over 100 countries around the world have already recognized the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital;
City Council commits the Government to take steps to
pressing the Italian government to recognize the Palestinian state within the borders prior to the occupation of '67 and to support the recognition at the United Nations.
