Municipality of Terni - Act of Address: Polo Chemical (Basell, Meraklon and induced)

Given that the eventual decision of Lyondell Basell to close the plant in Terni, produces a domino effect on other companies in the site, Meraklon, Treofan, the central thermoelectric Edison, closely linked to the production chain.


Given that to date no one sees a solution that will bring serenity to the workers, their families and to the area, already suffering the loss of jobs and daily haunted by the disappearance, in the chemical, the those skills that have brought success to our city;


Noting that until now the debate is still a hard-won agreement between two private parties and Novamont Lyondell Basell, with incomprehensible attitude of the American-Dutch multinational.


Feared the Lyondell Basell is about to leave without paying any price, without engaging directly or indirectly, to any alternative project aimed at maintaining the chemical plant in Terni,


Since the adaptation of plant engineering and technological transformation of production processes, including the conversion training of the workers, requires, to make the site functional and competitive in the new plan industrial chemical, not structural short time and then the extension of the uncertainties wage for workers;


Considered that in these cases the unity of all political parties, trade unions and institutional side of the workers represents an element of force to safeguard jobs;


The City Council undertakes the Mayor and the Board to:


1. continue to support with more strength and determination the workers' struggle with concrete gestures (membership and participation in all initiatives put in place to pressure, including the recent "marathon" Terni-Roma organized the banner of "let us all towards a solution");


2. share with all other institutions, trade unions, political parties and parliamentarians that the Polo Umbria Terni in Umbria and is strategic for the whole of the Italian chemical industry;


3. urge the Government, anxious because the Lyondell Basell, a strong sense of responsibility and to boot, right, a table institution (where you identify the tasks and responsibilities) when addressing the problem of chemical Polo Terni, as a national problem;


4. call for a new pact territory (freeing up resources national and regional money-FAS-Fund for Underdeveloped Areas for improvement and enhancement of the chemical plant) in order to develop an activity-based chemical and steel companies of and see in 'education and in ' University the cornerstones of a new strategy for employment, quality of proposal and business competitiveness.
